In 2022, I received an internal grant provided by Logan Simpson to conduct a pilot study project by incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into deployed Autonomous Recording Units (ARUs) across multiple projects for the Navajo Nation during site assessment surveys. The goal was to see if I could develop a feasible workflow using an AI model to identify bird species that occur within each project area from the audio data collected from the deployed ARUs at 12 different project sites.

On May 11, 2023, I presented the pilot study at the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) 2023 Conference where provided a tutorial on the BirdNET AI model to the conference attendees on how to setup the AI model within the framework of a biological assessment for rare bird species.
Following in September 16th, 2023, I presented at the Arizona Field Ornithologist Annual Conference.
